One of the profound mission statements of Jesus - one that he used to describe himself - is found in Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." The Bible uses the word “lost” to describe a terrible condition. Those who are away from the Father’s house and haven’t found the way back to Him are “lost.” Jesus saw the crowds of people surging about Him as sheep without a shepherd - lost, helpless, and hopeless, and He was deeply moved. In Luke 15, Jesus told three parables about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son and his main point is that people went to great sacrifice to retrieve what was lost - because each was of great value.
How many are lost in our world? How many are lost in our immediate circles? What length we will go to retrieve those who are lost?
A disciple of Jesus has a heart to see others come to know him. The word evangelism comes from the Greek word euangellion, which is simply the word for "good news." So an evangelist is really just a "good newser," a caring person who helps those who are desperately lost find their way home. May God use this study to deepen our hearts for those who are lost.
