The Navigators is a ministry that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ and helps others grow in Him through life-to-life discipleship. We do this on college campuses, military bases and in workplaces, inner cities, local communities, and hard-to-reach places.
The Navigators began In 1933 when a young man named Dawson Trotman began meeting with a sailor named Les Spencer in Long Beach California. They learned scripture by heart, prayed together, and created ways to share their faith with others. Spencer brought a shipmate to Trotman and asked him to help his friend in a similar way. Trotman’s reply, “You teach him”, unwittingly birthed The Navigators
Although Trotman was not trying to start a Christian servicemen’s organization, the ministry grew from a Bible club of 12 sailors in 1935 who called themselves the Navigators to a movement that spread to over 1000 ships and military installations by the end of World War II. The Navigators incorporated as an organization in the 1940’s, formally appointing staff workers to serve throughout the United States, and began sending missionaries to other nations in 1949. In 1953 the Navigators purchased Glen Eyrie Castle in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs to be the international home of a growing global ministry.
Today in over 100 nations, the Navigators is one of the most influential discipleship ministries of modern times. Hundreds of thousands of individuals who serve in congregations and mission fields around the world look back to the Navigators for their early source of growth.
In Revelation 7:9, God describes a great multitude of worshippers from every tribe, tongue, people and nation. Our prayer and vision is to see workers for the kingdom "next door to everywhere" who can usher those around them into His glorious presence.
To accomplish this, our goal by the year 2030 is to raise up a multitude of spiritually mature men and women in the US and beyond who embody the following five traits:
